Driving Sustainability Leads to Greater Fleet Efficiency and Reduced Costs

The City of Sacramento’s Department of General Services, a 2,300-vehicle municipal fleet and recognized green-fleet leader, needed to establish baseline operational metrics and standardize maintenance to support ambitious sustainability goals. To make data-driven decisions and measure progress, the city prioritized a technology upgrade and more efficient parts procurement.

Sacramento upgraded to AssetWorks FleetFocus, integrated NAPA/IBS parts procurement, and adopted electric and CNG vehicles with workplace charging infrastructure. The combined solution improved reporting and shop efficiency, reduced downtime and vehicle miles traveled, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and delivered an estimated $1.8 million in annual savings from parts management plus projected lifetime savings of about $30,000 per CNG heavy-duty vehicle.
