Dayton Children’s Hospital struggled during the COVID-19 surge with slow, multi-step result delivery: PCR results took one to two days and antigen results up to four hours, and parents often failed to complete Epic MyChart registration required to receive results—causing delays, anxiety, and extra calls. To fix this, Dayton Children’s partnered with Artera to deploy a faster, secure communications solution that could deliver test results directly via text from their drive-thru testing sites.
Artera worked with Dayton Children’s Clinical Information Systems to implement text-based result delivery in just three days, supporting rapid 15-minute antigen testing and integration with Epic MyChart. The change cut average notification time to 61 minutes (as fast as 34 minutes), achieved 97% patient satisfaction, reduced staff workload and training time, enabled fee-for-service community testing, and handled high holiday volumes (503 results on Dec 23 and 255 on Christmas Eve).
