Artera Enables CMHS to Quickly Pivot During COVID Crisis

Community Memorial Health System (CMHS), a community‑based nonprofit health system in Ventura, CA, faced an urgent operational challenge when COVID‑19 forced office closures in March 2020. With low patient portal use and email ineffective for real‑time outreach, CMHS turned to Artera’s communications platform to rapidly pivot to telehealth and maintain patient access to care.

Artera enabled CMHS to send mass SMS outreach and secure links for digital intake forms, deliver negative COVID test results, integrate with the EHR for automated referral and appointment reminders, and run Broadcast Campaigns (including vaccine invitations). The impact was immediate: over 192,000 messages sent in March, 15 campaigns to 47,113 patients, telehealth visits rising from zero to 300 in late March and 9,339 in April, and vaccination clinics delivering over 1,000 doses per day—while reducing inbound calls and missed/uncertain surgical preparations thanks to Artera.
