A Apptio Case Study
The United States Secret Service (USSS) faced a challenge in managing its IT finances and reporting. With a budget of approximately $120 million and accountability over $165 million in IT spend, the agency needed to improve fiscal transparency, automate reporting, and reduce the effort required for data calls. To address this, USSS partnered with Apptio and implemented its Technology Business Management (TBM) framework to create a unified financial baseline.
Apptio's solution involved developing a centralized repository, dubbed TIPS, which integrated disparate data sources and aligned them to the TBM taxonomy. This provided a common framework for reporting and analysis. As a result, the USSS achieved 100% compliance for its FITARA scores, a significant increase from 50%, and drastically reduced the time required for reporting. The implementation by Apptio also modernized financial planning workflows and established a trusted source for IT cost data, leading to better forecasting and budget discussions.
