Rolling Out A New Bill Of IT To Improve Transparency

AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group (ABSG), part of AmerisourceBergen Corp., provides integrated pharmaceutical services and relies on an IT organization that supports eight business units. ABSG’s IT team struggled with a growing transparency gap: business managers didn’t understand IT costs, ROI or TCO, showback reporting was done manually in spreadsheets (each report taking days), and billing was infrequent and lacked the detail needed for informed decisions.

ABSG implemented Apptio’s TBM solution to aggregate infrastructure and application data, map costs to services and give service owners actionable views of consumption and drivers. Within two years they moved more than half the IT budget from showback to chargeback, automated billing (monthly), decommissioned 75 servers, shortened cycle times, improved reconciliation and freed staff to analyze data—resulting in faster, better-informed decisions, clearer cost accountability and stronger business engagement.
