Exelon saves 5 analyst-days a month with Apptio Cloudability

ELO, a national Brazilian card brand, faced major challenges in managing costs across its complex, multi-cloud environment. Operating 100% across Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud, ELO struggled with fragmented cost data, an inability to allocate Kubernetes (AKS) expenses accurately, and a lack of a unified view that included non-cloud IT spend. With costs obscured in centralized infrastructure buckets, product teams lacked accountability. To address this, ELO partnered with vendor Apptio, implementing its IBM Cloudability solution for centralized FinOps management.

The solution from Apptio provided a unified platform for cost visibility and allocation. Apptio's Cloudability enabled precise product-level chargeback by mapping direct costs and fairly distributing shared services. It solved the AKS allocation challenge using container labels, integrated non-cloud vendor spend via FOCUS-compliant billing, and normalized all reporting to Brazilian Reais (BRL). This gave ELO a complete, trusted cost view. The results included the successful launch of chargeback in January 2026, making product teams fully accountable, and the savings of approximately five analyst-days per month in manual reporting effort.
