ECB halves screening time with Applied and fills 60% of roles with ethnically diverse candidates

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) faced the challenge of recruiting diverse, community-oriented city programme managers to support its South Asian Action Plan. They needed to attract candidates from non-traditional, non-sport backgrounds, moving beyond typical CV-based screening. To achieve this, they partnered with Applied and used its recruitment platform.

Applied's solution replaced CV screening with job preview questions, anonymized and randomized applications, and focused on skills and values like community passion. This process halved screening time compared to a paper CV sift. The results were significant: 80% of roles were filled by women, 60% by ethnically diverse candidates, and all positions were filled by capable individuals from varied backgrounds, greatly improving community engagement.
