A leading U.S. retailer wanted a clear view of how effective its promotions were across departments, with a focused review of housewares to answer which categories and specific promotions drove sales, where to concentrate merchandising, and where opportunities were being missed.
Using APT Illuminate, the retailer found bedding and cleaning produced the largest promotional lifts, identified four bedding subcategories that shouldn’t be promoted, and flagged Brand B and C as underused winners. By reallocating space to bedding, cleaning, bath and cookware, swapping some housewares promos for auto, toys and electronics, and promoting top-performing housewares subcategories and brands, the retailer generated $2.5M + $1.5M in incremental sales and more than $4M in total additional promotional sales.
