A leading multi-hundred–store retailer questioned whether its ship‑from‑store fulfillment program was harming sales by creating out‑of‑stocks for in‑demand products. Management needed to know which stores, if any, should stop using store inventory to fill online orders without damaging overall sales.
Using APT Test & Learn® for Sites, the retailer ran a controlled test comparing stores that stopped ship‑from‑store to similar stores that continued the program. Results showed a 4% lift in in‑store sales with no average impact on online sales, but also revealed inventory build‑up for specific items when ship‑from‑store was removed. Automatic segmentation identified which products should remain eligible for store fulfillment, allowing the retailer to target the program and drive incremental sales while reducing inventory buildup.
