Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts - Customer Case Study

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts needed to lower electricity costs, meet its sustainability goals, and expand access to local clean energy for customers and communities in Southeastern Massachusetts. To do this, Blue Cross partnered with Ameresco on community solar and net metering solutions to reduce bills and carbon emissions.

Ameresco designed, built, owns, and operates five community solar farms totaling about 6.9 MW (co‑developed with BlueWave Solar), with Blue Cross purchasing 2.6 MW of net metering credits. Ameresco’s projects provide bill savings for roughly 200 local residents and small businesses, boost community solar generation in MA by 13%, and avoid about 6,300 metric tons of CO2 (equivalent to taking ~1,328 cars off the road).
