Vodafone - Customer Case Study

Vodafone Italy, a major mobile operator with over 30 million customers, needed an easy, secure way for users to top up SIMs with debit/credit cards or PayPal across web, mobile and social channels. The company required PCI DSS Level 1 compliance and a flexible, scalable infrastructure to handle unpredictable transaction volumes.

Working with Storm Reply, Vodafone built the TopUp without Login service on AWS (EC2, VPC, S3, EBS, SES) with a multichannel front end and a middleware layer that decouples data and integrates third-party providers. The solution launched in three months, reduced capital expenses by ~30%, expanded from one channel to seven, scaled from ~1,000 to several thousand daily requests, maintained ~99.99% availability, and met Vodafone’s PCI-DSS security requirements.
