Samsung Migrates 1.1 Billion Users across Three Continents from Oracle to Amazon Aurora with AWS Database Migration Service

Samsung Account, the gateway to services like Bixby, SmartThings, and Samsung Pay, serves 1.1 billion users across three continents and handles about 80,000 requests per second. Samsung needed to move away from an aging Oracle monolith that was difficult to update, costly to scale, and not well suited for a microservices architecture.

Amazon Web Services helped Samsung migrate its massive database environment to Amazon Aurora using AWS Database Migration Service, with Amazon EC2 supporting the cloud infrastructure. The shift enabled Samsung to modernize toward microservices without disrupting service, improve scalability, and reduce risk and cost while supporting future growth for Samsung Account and its customers.
