Delivering Travel Deals across 110 Markets Using Amazon CloudFront with Skyscanner

Skyscanner worked with Amazon Web Services to proof out Amazon CloudFront as part of an effort to optimize its travel platform for 110 markets. The company needed to modernize its technology stack, replicate image-handling capabilities previously provided by its CDN, improve fault tolerance, and protect its front-end applications from DDoS attacks.

Amazon Web Services helped Skyscanner build a serverless image handler and multiregion deployment using AWS CDK, Amazon CloudFront, AWS Solutions Library code, and AWS Shield Advanced. The migration was completed over three months with zero global downtime, and the new architecture scaled to three billion monthly API requests, maintained a 99.99% average cache-hit rate, and cut CDN costs by 50 percent.
