Automating Cloud Foundry / BOSH on Top of IBM POWER8 and OpenStack

IBM, a global technology and consulting company, engaged Altoros to help port Cloud Foundry to IBM POWER8 on OpenStack and to automate the creation of BOSH assets. IBM’s challenge included x86‑only buildpacks, lack of Go compiler support for Power Systems, Ruby gems with native extensions failing on POWER8 Ubuntu, and BOSH Agent differences that prevented straightforward deployment of Cloud Foundry components.

Altoros automated creation of BOSH stemcells, BOSH and CF releases, and the installation of BOSH and Cloud Foundry on Ubuntu VMs running on POWER8/OpenStack, modified buildpacks for POWER8 executables, ensured Ruby gems installed correctly, and patched the BOSH Agent; work was carried out in Oregon State University’s OpenStack environment. As a result, Altoros accelerated the Cloud Foundry port to POWER8, enabled automated creation and deployment of BOSH components, and contributed changes back to community repositories while moving toward CI—delivering a high‑performance DevOps solution for large enterprises.
