T-Mobile’s Accounting Department needed a way to parse large daily credit card transaction text files from its processing company, but each record type in the file followed different field-length rules and there were no standard delimiters. Using Alteryx, the team set out to build a flexible workflow that could dynamically interpret each line based on its record type and map the data correctly.
Alteryx implemented a workflow that used a mapping file, RegEx parsing, and a batch macro to split records, apply the right field names, and output results to separate Excel tabs by record type. The solution processed nearly 4,000 records in just 5.7 seconds, eliminated the need for manual parsing, and saved significant development and processing time, avoiding the likely cost of a custom-built program.
