Case Study: Lenovo achieves faster time-to-market and improved CAE efficiency with Altair HyperWorks

A Altair Case Study

The Successful Application of HyperWorks at Lenovo

Lenovo, the global electronics and PC manufacturer, faced mounting industry pressure to cut costs, boost product quality and shorten development cycles. Engineers were spending roughly 80% of their simulation time on pre-processing, and existing tools produced unreliable meshes that slowed CAE-driven design. To address this, Lenovo adopted Altair’s HyperWorks suite—primarily HyperMesh for high-performance pre-processing and later OptiStruct for optimization and modal analysis.

Altair delivered HyperMesh to dramatically improve meshing quality and speed, and OptiStruct to perform topology and modal optimization (for example, avoiding a 120 Hz resonance with a spinning hard disk). The result: Lenovo completed a complex laptop simulation with 1.5 million elements in about one week versus nearly one month previously, shortening design cycles, reducing costs and improving product quality and time to market. Altair’s HyperWorks became Lenovo’s standard CAE platform, delivering measurable time savings and more reliable analysis.
