AirAsia blocks 90% of traffic as bots with Alibaba Cloud

AirAsia, a major low-cost airline in Malaysia, was facing significant challenges from bot attacks and crawlers on its online ticketing platform. These threats compromised website performance, jeopardized customer data, and directly impacted bookings and revenue. To address this, AirAsia partnered with vendor Alibaba Cloud to implement their Web Application Firewall and CDN services.

By deploying Alibaba Cloud's security solutions and collaborating closely with their security professionals, AirAsia was able to identify that 90% of its traffic was bots. The implementation included custom security rules and captcha solutions, which successfully thwarted attacks. As a result, AirAsia improved its platform's security and latency, reduced operational costs from malicious traffic, and now receives weekly security reports from Alibaba Cloud.
