Severn Trent Services, an industrial services company with 1,600 US-based benefits-eligible employees offering three PPO plans and an HDHP with HSA, needed a better way to educate workers about complex benefit choices and to encourage informed adoption of its consumer-directed HDHP option. The benefits team wanted to overcome inertia and fear that led employees to over-insure or stick with the status quo.

They implemented ALEX, a decision-support tool that replaces spreadsheets and guesswork with personalized, easy-to-understand guidance. As a result, employees began to see the value of the HDHP with HSA and naturally migrated away from the richest PPO; 99% of surveyed employees found ALEX’s medical module helpful and 100% found its tax savings module helpful.
