Case Study: AGL Loy Yang moves a 2,100-tonne stacker safely with Aggreko power support

AGL Loy Yang faced the challenge of moving a 2,100-tonne stacker reclaimer 22 kilometers across its mining site in Victoria, Australia. This was an unprecedented engineering feat in the Australian mining sector, made more complex because the massive machine had no power source of its own to complete the journey. Power solutions provider Aggreko was enlisted to solve this critical power requirement.

Aggreko's solution involved installing two 800 kVA generators directly onto the machine and placing a third on standby, all equipped with fire safety systems. They also supplied loadbanks to safely manage excess power during the downhill portions of the move. This setup, supported by 24/7 refuelling and technical support, ensured the 30-day relocation was executed flawlessly and without incident, marking a successful Australian mining first for Aggreko and the customer.
