Case Study: Bapco achieves zero downtime naphtha production with Aggreko cooling solution

A Aggreko Case Study

Preview of the Bapco Case Study

Preventing bottlenecks and sustaining naphtha production during the summer months

Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) faced a challenge with its hydrocracker unit, where high summer temperatures risked creating bottlenecks in naphtha production. This threatened to cause slowdowns and force an early end to the catalyst's run, potentially leading to significant downtime and financial loss. To sustain maximum throughput, Bapco partnered with vendor Aggreko for a cooling solution.

Aggreko implemented a bespoke solution involving two chillers, compressors, and pumps to cool the naphtha stream. This system was integrated into the production process and powered by a dedicated generator. The result was zero production downtime during the critical summer months, which allowed the refinery to avoid bottlenecks entirely. The project delivered a nearly 100% return on investment for Bapco, showcasing the effectiveness of Aggreko's approach.
