National Australia Bank Foils Fraudsters with ACI Proactive Risk Manager

National Australia Bank faced a sudden rise in internet-banking fraud driven by phishing and organized fraud gangs and needed stronger, more flexible detection beyond payment delays and two‑factor authentication. To address this, NAB deployed ACI Worldwide’s Proactive Risk Manager™ to monitor logins and transactions and to build custom, behavior‑based detection around IP addresses and customer footprints.

Using ACI Worldwide’s Proactive Risk Manager, NAB implemented IP‑address tracking, customer behavior profiles and highly customizable rules that filter about 98% of transactions before rule checks and scrutinize the remainder. The solution enabled near‑total fraud detection, helped recover targeted funds and apprehend offenders, and reduced NAB’s internet banking losses to approximately 1% of what they were seeing the previous year.
