Nationwide Building Society (NBS), one of the UK’s largest savings and mortgage providers with about 15 million members, needed to meet PSD2 Strong Customer Authentication requirements while reducing fraud and minimising friction for mobile banking users. NBS wanted a secure, on-premises solution that protected device and member data and would maintain customer retention and competitive positioning.

NBS implemented Accertify’s Device Intelligence as a Mobile-as-a-Factor solution, pairing device binding with biometric credentials to create a stronger, lower-friction 2FA experience; Accertify also provided malware/root detection, ongoing OS updates support, and white‑glove implementation. Adoption of banking app authentication rose from about 32% to over 70%, PSD2 compliance was achieved, and NBS is moving toward dynamic, risk‑based authentication using Accertify’s device data.
