Meadville Medical Center Uses Performance Manager for a More Meaningful Performance Appraisal

Meadville Medical Center, a Pennsylvania health system serving about 75,000 local patients and another 150,000 regionally, faced a crisis after 65% of its 1,300 employees reported poor recognition and accountability in an annual satisfaction survey. Their paper-based, labor-intensive appraisal process—sometimes 18 pages long and focused on items like dress code rather than core job duties—was seen as ineffective and undermined trust.

MMC implemented HealthcareSource Performance Manager, reworked evaluations to rate employees on 10–12 essential duties plus organizational values, and used HealthcareSource’s implementation and training support. The new system cut HR’s administrative burden, made feedback and multi-rater input easy to collect, and delivered more meaningful evaluations that increased transparency, accountability and employee satisfaction.
