Houston Methodist Uses HealthcareSource Staff Assessment to Hire for Cultural Fit and Reduce Turnover

Houston Methodist, a system of eight hospitals with 22,050 employees and more than 100,000 annual admissions, faced a cultural challenge during rapid growth: turnover rose to 17.9% and employee engagement slipped to the 88th percentile, threatening the organization’s values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence.

To address this, Houston Methodist launched the Hire4Fit program using HealthcareSource Staff Assessment to screen for cultural fit, provide interview guides, and integrate with its ATS. The program achieved 90% assessment completion prior to hire, improved hiring consistency, reduced overall turnover from 17.9% to 14.2%, cut RN turnover by 43.8% (9.37% vs. 16.67%, about 40 fewer RN separations), lowered combined turnover for assessed hires to 12.13% versus 14.51% for non-assessed hires, and raised employee engagement from the 88th to the 95th percentile.
