East Tennessee Children’s Hospital Launches Effective Leadership Coaching Program with HealthcareSource Leadership Assessment

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, a 152‑bed Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center, needed a better way to support leaders as they transitioned into new roles. Although it had an onboarding Leadership Coaching Program, the hospital identified a gap between bringing leadership candidates into the program and getting them fully performing in their positions, and sought personalized, objective development and coaching to identify opportunities and guide ongoing growth.

The hospital implemented HealthcareSource Leadership Assessment—AHA‑endorsed behavioral assessments—to create scientifically validated baselines and individualized development plans with prescriptive learning steps. In the 18 months since launch, 19 new leaders (12 external, 7 internal) participated and 18 remain in their roles; departments led by program participants show an average turnover of 11% versus 18% organization‑wide, and participants attend 96% of scheduled coaching sessions, while the program has also been used to retain and redirect internal talent.
