A more strategic approach to hiring for Silverado Senior Living with behavioral assessments

Silverado Senior Living, which provides dementia-focused care across home care, assisted living and hospice services, struggled with turnover and employee dissatisfaction because traditional interviews failed to surface candidates’ willingness to work nights and weekends or fit the organization’s patient-centered culture. Although they had previously purchased HealthcareSource’s Staff Assessment, it was used inconsistently and did not help hiring managers identify the root causes of staffing problems.

Silverado relaunched the Staff Assessment for all non‑exempt roles, paired it with an integrity screen, and trained managers to use the assessment reports and structured interview guides. The more objective, behavioral-based process produced better cultural and scheduling fit, allowed managers to direct candidates to other suitable business lines when appropriate, improved hiring conversations, and contributed to a measurable reduction in turnover.
