The Town of Morrisville, a tech-forward North Carolina municipality serving about 25,000 residents and 220 employees, needed to remove communication barriers that were undermining its Smart City goals. A legacy phone system was complicated, prone to outages, and ranked lowest in satisfaction, limiting transparency, staff collaboration and citizen access — prompting CIO Rick Ralph to seek a modern, cloud-based replacement.
Working with partner Insight, Morrisville deployed the 8x8 eXperience Communications Platform with 8x8 Voice for Microsoft Teams in under a month. The cloud solution let staff take calls from any device, plug desk phones in at home, and self-manage settings; admin time to add users dropped from 20 minutes to under five, help-desk tickets fell to zero, and the town eliminated about $5,500 in maintenance costs — improving availability, citizen self-service and overall transparency.
