St Paul’s Cathedral, the Grade I‑listed landmark in the City of London that welcomed millions of visitors pre‑pandemic, faced an inflexible on‑premise phone system that would require significant investment to upgrade. As a charity with tight budgets—and with COVID‑19 forcing staff to work remotely—the cathedral sought a more flexible, cost‑effective communications solution that could support collaboration and remote services.
Working with Charterhouse, St Paul’s migrated to 8x8 Work, a cloud UC platform providing voice, video, messaging and conferencing in a single app; Charterhouse handled number porting, project management and staff training. The cloud solution delivered lower total cost than a PBX upgrade, enabled remote work for about 100 staff, improved education delivery and user experience, preserved staff privacy, and opened new possibilities for outreach and collaboration.
