A 8x8 Case Study
Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (29 campuses in Fairfield and Suisun, CA; ~2,000 users) faced a major budget challenge when FCC changes to the E-Rate program removed phone-service discounts. With leased AT&T PRI lines and years of subsidized service, the district’s phone costs were projected to jump from $180K to roughly $680–700K annually — a nearly $500K shortfall.
FSUSD piloted 8x8 Virtual Office and chose a metered 250-minute plan that eliminated costly PRI lines and leveraged the district’s fiber network. With easy migration, extension dialing, a district-wide directory, and a mobile app showing school caller ID, the district kept phone spending at about $180K/year, reclaimed IT time, improved reliability, and achieved the targeted $500K annual savings.
