Making Continuous Improvement Personal

Texas A&M University’s Department of Financial and Accounting Services aimed to build a culture of continuous improvement but struggled to get employees to move beyond the status quo and routinely reflect on and improve their work. The challenge was fostering regular dialogue, recognition, and proactive manager–employee conversations across a large, research-intensive institution.

The department implemented 15Five—using weekly check-ins, OKRs, Pulse Checks, reporting, and High Fives—to prompt self-reflection, surface issues, and celebrate contributions. The solution led to adoption of the continuous-improvement philosophy, higher employee engagement, improved supervisor–employee communication, actionable process-improvement ideas, and better data for reviews and strategic planning.
