American Red Cross Stays Connected to Disaster Relief Volunteer and Staff Using 15Five

The American Red Cross, a large non-profit mobilizing thousands of volunteers and staff, needed a simple way to capture frontline feedback across 10 regional chapters in 11 Midwestern states. With volunteer attrition around 30% and team leads not consistently collecting input, Division Disaster Executive Jono Anzalone sought a systemized method to hear from 116 full‑time staff and some 5,700 volunteers to improve engagement and operational awareness.

Anzalone piloted 15Five’s lightweight weekly check‑ins, which staff and volunteers quickly adopted; managers use a dashboard to review submissions, escalate issues, and surface ideas to leadership. Within two years dozens of managers and hundreds of employees used the tool, yielding clearer communication, higher engagement, and concrete operational changes—like faster distribution of funds after fires—by tapping frontline insight.
