Zyxel Brings Wireless Innovation to Tomorrow’s Innovators

ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology’s student housing project at its Hönggerberg campus, needed stable and secure wireless connectivity across a large dorm complex with many walls, high user density, and strict requirements for security, switching, and bandwidth management. To address these challenges, Zyxel provided a wireless networking solution built around WAC6503D-S access points, XGS3700-48HP switches, a USG1900 firewall, and NXC5500 wireless LAN controllers.

Zyxel implemented a centralized WLAN architecture with automated provisioning, high-density WiFi optimization, and strong security controls such as intra-BSS traffic blocking, IP Source Guard, DHCP snooping, and ARP inspection. The result was reliable wireless coverage for 500 residents, real-time monitoring and traffic management, and early detection of bottlenecks and failures before they could disrupt service.
