Porto di Locarno, a harbor on Switzerland’s Lake Maggiore, wanted to give boaters instant Wi‑Fi access from their vessels across a large 39,000-square-meter area. To meet this challenge, Zyxel provided an outdoor WLAN solution using NWA3550-N 802.11 a/b/g/n access points, with coverage originating from the shore.

Zyxel and its partner Sertus I.T.S. SA deployed three outdoor dual-radio access points along the shoreline, connected with fiber, media converters, and PoE injectors, plus sector antennas and lightning arresters for reliable operation. The result was dependable Wi‑Fi coverage for all 372 berthing spaces, with a scalable setup ready for future 5 GHz expansion and easier network management.
