Four-Star Italian Resort Hotel Extends Wi-Fi Coverage with ZyXEL Hardware

Hotel Balocco, a four-star boutique resort in Porto Cervo, Italy, wanted to extend Wi‑Fi beyond its common areas and into guest rooms without disrupting existing data or electrical wiring. The hotel partnered with Zyxel to find a secure, reliable way to deliver wireless access using the building’s existing telephone cabling, along with support for guest authentication.

Zyxel implemented a solution centered on a VES1724 DSLAM to deliver connectivity over telephone lines to 24 rooms, AMG1202 wireless gateways in the guest rooms, NWA5120 and NWA3550 access points for common areas and outdoors, and a UAG4100 Unified Access Gateway for guest logins. The result was high-performance Wi‑Fi across the property without new cabling or masonry work, with a future-proof foundation that can also support VoIP and IPTV upgrades.
