Reliance Partners, a Chattanooga-based agency focused on large trucking and transportation risk, faced a prospect with eight locations whose experience modification factor (mod) was fluctuating wildly due to uneven historical losses. The client had little understanding of workers’ comp or how three-year loss trends drive the mod, leaving Reliance with the challenge of both controlling the mod and educating the client on risk management.

In Q4 2013 Reliance deployed ModMaster to drill into loss drivers (by body part, location and employee), forecast mod movement and teach the client how the three-year rating works. They built a three-year payroll-and-loss program that preserved a safe harbor while incentivizing better performance—cutting potential premiums well below the initial $700K if losses improve (or exposing up to $1M if they don’t)—and used ModMaster’s Quick Mod to win the $700K account and open new prospecting opportunities.
