Hardenbergh Insurance Group, based in Marlton, NJ, built its reputation serving main-street businesses but decided to move upstream into larger accounts over the past few years. Targeting clients in the $5–35K commission range, the agency faced the challenge of proving measurable value and differentiating itself from both small agencies and larger firms that under-serve that segment.
To meet that challenge Hardenbergh invested in Zywave tools (Broker Briefcase® P&C and Benefits, MyWave Elements®) and additional staff, using the content to educate clients on health care reform, OSHA, safety committees and return-to-work programs. The approach paid off: the agency successfully entered the lower-middle market and had a record new-business year in 2013—writing more business that year than in the previous 58 years—by tailoring Zywave solutions to individual account needs.
