Embraces Citrix Hosted Desktops and Nimble Storage to Deliver 3D Modeling Software to Chromebooks

Orangewood Foundation’s Samueli Academy wanted to teach industry‑standard SolidWorks 3D CAD to its students but its 1:1 Chromebook program couldn’t run the heavy desktop software. Orangewood engaged Zumasys to find a cost‑effective remote desktop solution—leveraging a Citrix XenDesktop VDI deployment supported by Nimble Storage CS215, HP DL380 GEN9 servers and NVIDIA GRID K2 graphics—to deliver SolidWorks to Chromebooks without building a traditional computer lab.

Zumasys implemented the Citrix VDI, upgraded the school’s network and configured the Nimble Storage‑backed infrastructure so students can double‑click from any Chromebook to run SolidWorks. The result: 30 students concurrently using the VDI with no latency, centralized app management for a single IT admin supporting 500+ users, elimination of laptop‑cart maintenance, and plans to scale the platform to about 100 students across engineering, design and Photoshop classes.
