Umicore, a global materials-technology and recycling group with over 10,000 employees across more than 100 sites, faced a growing need for secure, scalable Internet access as its use of cloud applications expanded. With security controls only in larger plants and a mandate for simplicity, productivity and reliability, IT weighed backhauling traffic over MPLS against local Internet breakouts and selected a cloud-based proof of concept with Zscaler, which led to a global rollout.

Umicore deployed Zscaler’s cloud security (including Web Business Suite, bandwidth control and Guest Wi‑Fi) and used Premium Plus Support with a designated Technical Account Manager to standardize architecture, policies and GRE tunnel migrations. The result was an almost zero‑touch, globally consistent platform that enabled rapid, low-impact changes (for example, Zscaler App rollout for Windows 10 in one day), delivered cost avoidance, minimal change windows and improved reliability, agility and user satisfaction.
