The Government of the District of Columbia Consolidates Security on the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange

The Government of the District of Columbia, a public-sector organization with about 15,000 employees, faced an outdated security architecture that hindered remote work and created operational inefficiencies. Traditional VPN appliances extended the corporate network to endpoints, increasing risk to sensitive data, while legacy point products limited visibility into threats and complicated risk assessment.

The city implemented Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange (including ZIA and ZPA) to replace legacy VPNs, provide secure direct access to internet and SaaS, and enforce microsegmented access to private resources, augmented by AI-driven insights. The new architecture processes roughly 3 billion transactions and blocks more than 200,000 threats per month, improves the remote user experience, integrates with existing identity systems, and strengthens real-time risk management for 15,000 users.
