Peel Regional Police Expands Zero Trust Cybersecurity

Peel Regional Police, one of Canada’s largest municipal forces serving 1.4 million residents and more than 50 million annual airport visitors, needed to securely deploy a cloud-enabled body-worn camera program and agency-issued iPhones while maintaining data integrity, user experience, and strict RCMP and other regulatory compliance. The agency wanted to avoid the performance and complexity of backhauling camera traffic through VPNs and needed a stronger zero trust posture for sensitive video and cloud apps.

Peel expanded its Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange—building on Zscaler Internet Access with Advanced Cloud Firewall, Advanced Cloud Sandbox, CASB and Cloud DLP, plus direct peering—to route camera traffic securely to AXON, gain granular visibility, and provide inline protection against known and zero‑day threats. The deployment delivered appropriate security for the camera initiative, met or exceeded regulatory mandates, blocked patient‑zero attacks, improved application performance and compliance visibility, and enabled continued cloud-based innovation.
