MCNC Secures Access from Anywhere for Staff and 1.5+ Million Students

MCNC, a North Carolina technology nonprofit that builds and operates broadband infrastructure for research, education, healthcare and community institutions, supports 115 school districts and more than 1.5 million students. Faced with a surge in student devices and cloud-based learning, MCNC needed to expand its technology portfolio and offer shared, centrally managed security services to block inappropriate content and defend against internet-based threats across a wide geographic area.

MCNC deployed Zscaler’s Zero Trust Exchange and Zscaler Internet Access to move security to the cloud, bring the gateway closer to users, and enable local internet breakouts. The cloud-delivered solution gave MCNC scalable, policy-based protection and real-time threat prevention that scales centrally instead of at each district, delivering secure, fast access for institutions and students while simplifying management and boosting content filtering and malware defenses.
