Kern Community College District’s Move to Zero Trust Garners 99% User Approval Rating

Kern Community College District, which serves over 30,000 students across three campuses and supports about 1,000 administrative and business users, faced escalating remote-access challenges as its geography and use cases expanded. The district had multiple legacy remote-access solutions that were costly and complex to manage, exposed by vulnerabilities that caused downtime and a poor user experience, and left them vulnerable to advanced threats and lateral movement.

Kern CCD deployed Zscaler’s Zero Trust Exchange (ZPA and ZDX) to replace legacy technologies and move 1,000+ users to policy-driven zero trust access with granular app segmentation, posture checks, and integrations with Splunk, CrowdStrike and Microsoft tools. The centralized solution reduced administrative overhead, prevented lateral threats, improved performance and reliability, and achieved an estimated 99% user approval rating while laying the foundation for a cloud-first, scalable network architecture.
