A Zscaler Case Study
The Commonwealth Grants Commission (CGC), an independent Australian statutory body based in Canberra that advises the government on financial assistance and GST distribution, faced performance and scalability problems from an aging on‑premises infrastructure and a congested 10 Mbps secure internet gateway. Upgrading that SIG to 100 Mbps was prohibitively expensive and incompatible with the CGC’s move to a cloud‑based, “anywhere, anytime, any device” strategy and planned office relocation.
Working with partners the CGC deployed a business‑grade gigabit link, migrated core applications to Microsoft Azure and Office 365 E5, and implemented Zscaler Internet Access and Zscaler Private Access (IRAP‑assessed) to secure cloud traffic. The new setup accelerated cloud adoption, allowed staff to work remotely within a week during COVID, improved performance and flexibility, and cost significantly less than the quoted SIG upgrade while providing a secure foundation for future IT plans.
