Digital Realty Extends Zero Trust to Its OT Environment with the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange

Digital Realty, a global data center owner and operator headquartered in Austin with 291 facilities worldwide, needed to implement a zero trust security foundation across its enterprise — including operational technology (OT) — to protect customers and critical infrastructure. The challenge was to extend enterprise-grade zero trust controls to diverse OT/IoT environments without disrupting operations.

By adopting the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange (including ZIA and ZPA), Digital Realty established a cloud-based zero trust foundation that secures operations globally, simplifies the roadmap to zero trust, and helps stop ransomware. The deployment reduced security costs and implementation time, lowered overall effort to achieve zero trust, and is expected to deliver substantial — even “incalculable” — ROI once fully extended to OT.
