A Zoom Video Communications Case Study
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) Europe, which serves working professionals and military students across 170 global sites, faced a sudden shift when on-base learning centers closed and staff moved to remote work at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The division needed to maintain advising, registration, and other on-site student services for a dispersed international student body while solving telephony and access challenges across multiple countries.
UMGC Europe adopted Zoom Phone, Meetings, and Video Webinars to provision over 100 users across 14 countries with local numbers, enable call queues and remote desk answering, and create “virtual offices” for drop-in advising and private breakout-room consultations. The result was immediate operational relief, continued delivery of classes and student services (including virtual field study tours and community events), and a durable shift toward more accessible, flexible support for students in remote locations.
