Zoom Helps IFB Solutions Keep the Visually Impaired Employed, Learning & Connected During COVID-19

IFB Solutions, the U.S. nonprofit that is the largest employer of people who are blind or visually impaired, needed to keep roughly 450 program participants employed, trained, and socially connected when COVID‑19 disrupted in‑person work, education, and support services. With unemployment already high among blind and visually impaired adults, the organization faced the additional challenge of recruiting and onboarding new employees and running after‑school and community programs remotely.

Using Zoom’s accessibility features—screen reader support, keyboard shortcuts, automatic transcripts, and simple controls—IFB recruited 27 new employees, trained staff remotely, shifted manufacturing, labs, and call centers to work‑from‑home setups, and moved its SEE children’s program and support groups online for over 200 kids and numerous adults. Staff report much faster onboarding and greater efficiency, and participants praise the platform’s ease of use for keeping jobs, classes, and community activities running during the pandemic.
