A Zoom Video Communications Case Study
Western Sydney University (WSU) is a leading Australian university with eight campuses serving about 43,000 students. Facing a mix of aging, costly hardware conference systems and unsatisfactory LMS web conferencing—along with a need to reduce travel time and support real-time online teaching and research—WSU needed a simpler, more reliable collaboration platform.
Working with AARNet, WSU deployed Zoom campus-wide (including Zoom Rooms), moved from an early 30-user pilot to a site license used by over 5,000 hosts, and expanded to 80+ Zoom Rooms, 24 collaborative learning studios and H.323/SIP connectors for legacy systems. The result: video collaboration rose 400%, meeting minutes exceeded half a million per month, and the university avoided roughly $1.5 million in hardware refresh and maintenance costs while transforming staff expectations around online meetings.
