A Zoom Video Communications Case Study
The Information School (iSchool) at the University of Washington—a long‑standing provider of asynchronous online graduate programs—needed to introduce synchronous activities to build stronger relationships among students, faculty, and content. Existing tools like Adobe Connect were complex and prone to connection issues, so the iSchool sought a simpler, more engaging solution that would give remote students a real sense of presence in hybrid classes.
They deployed a tightly integrated Zoom and Kubi telepresence solution, which proved easy to use and worked well on limited bandwidth. Adoption was rapid, with Zoom usage more than doubling vs. Adobe Connect; the setup became especially popular for streaming campus events and combining low‑enrollment electives into hybrid courses, and faculty and students reported significantly improved engagement and presence.
