A Zoom Video Communications Case Study

Preview of the Shared_Studios Case Study

Shared_Studios Connects the World through Zoom

Shared_Studios is a global art, technology, and design collective that connects people through Portals—specially outfitted spaces (often gold shipping containers) deployed in thirty sites from Times Square to rural Veracruz, Yangon, Gaza, and refugee/IDP camps. The organization needed a video platform that would work reliably in extremely low-bandwidth and infrastructure-poor locations, where many services suffered latency, echo, or were inaccessible due to telecom restrictions.

Zoom provided high-quality, low-latency connections even in rural and satellite-linked Portals, enabling Shared_Studios to link community members across thirty locations worldwide. With Zoom, the collective has run social programs and collaborations (youth exchanges, Shared_Meals, international hackathons), hosted notable participants and global institutions, and maintained regular internal coordination among Portal curators.
