Senior Learning Network Enables Life-long Learning On Zoom

Senior Learning Network is a mission-driven nonprofit founded by former teachers Ellen Ervin and Lynne Beachner to deliver lifelong learning to retired adults via interactive video conferencing at senior centers. After testing their own server and other platforms, they struggled with freezing, audio/video sync issues and accessibility challenges for older adults with hearing and vision loss.

They adopted Zoom, which eliminated freezing and sync problems and provided clearer audio and video, making sessions more accessible and reliable; partner institutions began switching to Zoom as well. Using Zoom, SLN now offers about 600 affordable programs, serves roughly 25 centers (with plans to double that), is piloting home-based participation and hosting fundraisers — enabling broader reach and stronger engagement among older adults.
